Working in animal pest control can involve risk, given that it can require working in rugged and remote areas, physically hard work and using poisons.
The WorkSafe website is a useful source of guidance on good work practices. A useful section focuses on working with vertebrate toxic substances (VTAs). From this section you can download the booklet, Working Safely in Animal Pest Control, working with vertebrate toxic agents. The booklet provides an easily understood guide to understanding the rules and regulations, handling and tracking procedures and what to do in VTA-related emergencies.
It's also worth browsing the website for other aspects of your pest control work, such as the two-wheeled motor bike or quad bike safety factsheets or, for those working near hoppers and helicopters, the noise factsheets.
